283 Jobs Coming to Lower Mac

QPSI, a pharmaceutical packaging plant based in N.J., will relocate to Lower Macungie Township.

A N.J. pharmaceutical packaging company will relocate to Lower Macungie Township and bring hundreds of jobs with it over the next three years.

QPSI, which has headquarters in Burlington, N.J., will move its packaging operations facility from Moonachie to 7570 Industrial Park Way, according to a story on WFMZ.com.

The company received assistance from the state Department of Community and Economic Development that includes, "a $500,000 Pennsylvania First grant, $100,000 in job training assistance, $566,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits and a $2.25 million loan from the Machine and Equipment Loan Fund," the story says.

QPSI was founded in 1992. Its first orders were for packaging for personal care, feminine care and healthcare products which it still makes, according to its website. The company also has facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Louisiana.

First HAPPY these jobs are coming to the township. However...

"The company received assistance from the state Department of Community and Economic Development that includes, "a $500,000 Pennsylvania First grant, $100,000 in job training assistance, $566,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits and a $2.25 million loan from the Machine and Equipment Loan Fund," the story says."

Nationally we need to stop policies that are simply job poaching. Using taxpayer money to lure jobs away from neighboring communities. What we need is job CREATION.

Ditto with Ocean Spray. Simply taking 250 jobs from Bordentown NJ which is about 60 miles away and moving them to fogelsville because of tax breaks and state money.

How does job poaching help the big picture of our national economy?

I've only read this and the WFMZ article. Does anyone know...
How many of these jobs will be filled by folks following the company from Jersey to here? I know with Ocean spray employees had to option to move here. So the "job creation" numbers are a bit skewed since from what I understand many will be doing so. I'm unsure if this is the same sort of situation.

Our township is in real need of some commercial/industrial development. Enough high density residential housing for a while!
