Is This Farmland, or a Bedroom Community?
Residents and township officials are at odds
This farmland, on the far western side of Lower Macungie Township, could hold 900 homes and several warehouses and other industrial buildings if the decision of the Lower Macungie Commissioners plays out.
However, the Friends of Lower Macungie Township, a grassroots group formed to preserve the farmland, has filed suit in the Lehigh County courts to try to prevent the plans submitted by developer David Jaindl from ever coming to fruition.
Township officials said they decided in favor of the development as a way to avoid having the land turned into a 600-acre quarry which was Jaindl's original plan.
The development will be the topic when the Lower Macungie Townhip Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Lower Macungie Township Municipal Building, 3400 Brookside Road.
