East Penn School Board Hears Yeas, Nays for Alleged Porn

Controversial summer reading suggestions stir emotions at East Penn School Board meeting.

One of the books being discussed as inappropriate for 9th and 10th graders at the East Penn School Board meeting on Sept. 24, 2012 is "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld.

The East Penn School Board meeting room was packed from wall-to-wall Monday night when a dozen or so members of the public and several students addressed the board about what some feel are questionable books included on Emmaus High School's suggested summer reading list.

Though most came just to listen, emotions ran high as some condemned "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld and "The Electric Acid Kool-Aid Test" by Tom Wolfe as "morally reprehensible" material.

Others commended the board for respecting intellectual integrity.

Well said Missy. I plan to present a compromise solution to the board.

A special PTA-appointed team of editors will use a black marker to blacken out any offensive words or passages. These sanitized version of Prep and EKAAT can remain the suggested reading list.

The Defense Department uses similar techniques for sharing previously classified info. Works great. Kids still get to read the book, teachers can recommend it, and watchful parents are able to keep the graphic parts well hidden.

Win-win.

How will the students be dealt with if and when they act out any part of these books??

Same way you or I or any other adult would be dealt with if we act out a scene from a reality tv show. If a kid as a high schooler, does not understand not to act something out they read or see, then they were shelter way to long in life.

Kids have enough bad influence, feed them wholesome alternatives. Many have fallen for this political correct nonsense of intellectual integrity. Think for yourselves, if possible, where has common sense gone.
