Firefighter Chris Edwards Wants to Make a Difference

The Macungie Fire Company volunteer once served at Upper Milford Fire Company.

Name:  Chris Edwards

Age:  21

Hometown:  Zionsville.

Family:  Chris lives at home with his parents, Robin and Chris Edwards.

Occupation:  He works at the Naceville Quarry in Sellersville.

Fire Company:  Chris has been at the Macungie Fire Department for one year as a firefighter and with the fire police.  He was previously a volunteer with the Upper Milford Fire Company-Western District for three years.

Training:  His training includes interior firefighting, pumps 1, HazMat, First Responder and more.

Describe your job with the fire company.  “I fight interior fires, carry and control the hoses, climb ladders to help with rescues or put out the fires and am certified to assist with search and rescue of a burning building.  I also assist the fire police when needed with traffic control at fires or events.”

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?  “They are fine with what I am doing.  My dad was a firefighter when he was younger, and I guess I am just following in his footsteps.”

Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience.  “I don’t really have any interesting stories to tell—not yet, anyway.”

What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?  “I would tell them to do it, especially if you want to make a difference.  You can save someone’s life or their house or other property.”
