Firefighter Chris Hamscher

His family helped found the Vera Cruz Fire Company.

 

Name:  Chris Hamscher

Age:  23

Lives:  Lower Macungie Township

Family: Unmarried, has a girlfriend.

Job:  Hamscher works as a conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad

Fire company:  He has been a member of the Macungie Fire Department for the past six years, where he serves as its assistant chief for the past two years.

Training so far:  “Truthfully, training is endless.  It depends what you want to do, as far as training goes.” 

What's it like being a firefighter?  “I grew up with firefighting.  It’s just a normal part of my life.”

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?  “They are very supportive.”

Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience.  “I don’t really have any experiences I wish to talk about; however, my family founded the Vera Cruz Fire Company.  My grandfather was Ron Hamscher, one of the founders.”

What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?  “I would tell them what it’s all about and that it’s a lot of hard work.  We always need volunteers and we will train them.”
