There's putting out the welcome mat . . . and then there's putting out the welcome mat.
Instead of preparing to greet a visitor, a Lower Macungie Township resident recently learned the more literal meaning of the phrase when she found her welcome mat had been burned, according to state police at Fogelsville.
Kathy Ann Schussler reported the criminal mischief incident at 10:51 p.m. July 5 at 4626 Belmont Drive.
No damage value was given.
