If he was looking for a sign from above, a Wayne County motorist may have found it along Interstate 78 in Lower Macungie Township.

Unfortunately, the phenomena probably will cost him a few bucks.

Richard A. Mahne, 30, of White Mills was driving west on I-78 at 7:45 p.m. Nov. 26 when a road sign flew through the air and smacked into his front bumper, according to state police at Fogelsville. The sign was lying in the roadway and shot out from underneath a vehicle driving ahead of his.

Things could have been a lot worse, however, had the sign crashed through his windshield or distracted him causing a collision.

Instead, Mahne was able to steer his vehicle to a controlled stop on the berm, police said. He was uninjured.

Police offered no damage estimate to his vehicle.
