Hit-and-Run Driver Damages Lower Mac Barn
Man caught whose tractor-trailer pushed protective barrier into structure, police say.
A concrete barrier designed to protect a Lower Macungie barn from being damaged by errant motorists was pushed into the structure May 22 by a tractor-trailor, causing significant damage to an alcove.
The damage was caused by a hit-and-run driver, who eventually was caught and charged, according to state police at Fogelsville.
The accident occurred at 5:39 p.m. at Schoeneck and Mountain roads. Ellis C. Casto, 66, of Norman Park, Ga., cut the corner of the intersection too sharp, police said. The rear tires of the trailer struck the barrier, knocking it into the wood alcove of the barn and causing damage.
Casto left the scene without reporting the incident, police said. The truck was found parked on Industrial Boulevard in Upper Macungie Township. Casto was cited for hit and run on unattended property.
Police said Casto was uninjured.
