In Lehigh County, Dems Have 36,000 Voter Edge

With Lehigh County still tabulating, Democrats have a 36,276 voter registration edge over the GOP. Number of registered voters higher than 2008 presidential race.

A surge in voter registration just before the Oct. 9 deadline means Lehigh County has topped the number of voters registered for the 2008 presidential election.

The county voter registration, as of the morning of Oct. 11, was 76,135 Republicans, 112,411 Democrats and 36,741 Independents and members of other parties, according to Tim Benyo, Lehigh County chief clerk of Voter Registration and Elections.

That’s a total of 225,287, with Democrats having a 36,276 edge over Republicans, but the county still had more registrations to put into the computerized voter records.

In Lehigh County, there were 224,086 people registered to vote in the 2008 presidential election and 68 percent of them did, according to the county Voter Registration web site.

As for trends, Benyo said the county is seeing the results of concentrated voter registration drives in the Allentown area, especially in the Hispanic community.

“In Lehigh County, we’ve had a lot of registration drives in the city targeting Spanish-speaking people,” he said. That has driven up the number of Democrats registered in Allentown, Benyo said.

As of Oct. 11, the county had sent out 4,472 absentee ballots.

Registered voters who can’t make it to the polls can apply for an absentee ballot until 5 p.m. Oct. 30. They must have the completed ballots back to the voter registration office by 5 p.m. Nov. 2 for them to be counted.

When voters go to the polls Nov. 6, they will be asked for photo identification. But if they say they don’t have it, they will still be allowed to vote. That was the determination of Commonwealth Court Judge Robert E. Simpson of Nazareth, who upheld the new Voter ID law but halted it from taking full effect until after the election.

Simpson’s ruling let stand the portion of the Voter ID law that requires absentee voters to provide on their ballot a photo ID such as their Voter ID number or Pennsylvania driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Benyo said his office has already conducted training for some poll workers but still has more training sessions later this month.

In the 2008 presidential election, 68 percent of the county’s registered voters cast a ballot and in the 2004 presidential race it was 73.6 percent.

if you wish to allign yourself with Karl Marx, great, but at least we know what your I.Q. is. just smart enough to wake up a go to the mailbox and get your government check. Alas, that too will soon run out. Better dead than red. That was a saying that is true today, good day Karl, or is it Uncle Joe, (Biden, or stalin) both the same.

I am an independent voter.
I was just invited to a Dent fundraiser. My reply: was to the effect: "help the guy who voted against cutting my taxes? - you have to be kidding me!" The GOP has slapped every middle class voter in the face. How stoopid do they think people are?

Not stoopid enough to actually believe you are an independent. Independents are too cowardly to have an opinion...you are just full of opinion. All BS but an opinion nonetheless

Just wait for the "b_tch slap" the middle class is going to get when Obamacare actually takes effect in 2013! Do you think the timing of the bill was a coincidence? Why doesn't it take effect until AFTER the election?! Because if you read it, you'll realize we are ALL in for a rude awakening. I am a self-employed person who buys my own health insurance for my family. My health insurance has risen by MORE THAN $500 PER MONTH to over $1,900 per month out of my own pocket since Obamacare was passed. You're next! I hope enjoy your "change". You deserve it. My business is growing, but I will not hire anyone until I actually know how much money this will cost me. If the numbers prove out to what I already see, then I will not hire anyone and just be a single person entity leaving others to start their own business like I did. You can vote for a government that will have a more controlling influence in your life and the lives of your children, or you can choose a government that allows citizens to choose their own career and future. Choose wisely...

I refuse to bash someone because of their party affiliation or if they are a socialist / communist or opposite - a conservative Christian. If someome choses to vote by a party name instaed of who the best person for the job is - that is sad but their business. But don't bash me because i listen to the facts and vote for a person with a history and mission that most closely aligns to the U.S. Constitution & Amendments plus Declaration of Independence. I have never cared if I was in the majority or out numbered. I do care to try my best to do what is best for my family and the USA regardless of what some political party or the rest of the world wants.

Please don't vote for Democrats. They are blindly following the Marxist Obama and his Marxist cretins. This is no longer the party of JFK and Truman. It has been commandeered by radical leftists and marxists. You can vote for Tyranny with the marxist president that we have, or you can choose liberty and vote Republican. Make no mistake, if you vote Democrat we will be going down a path never intended by our founders. A path of complete government invasion into our lives. The path that their motto "Forward" invokes. You don't have to become a republican to vote against their socialist agenda,. You can choose to stay Democrat or Independent. But we need you in this fight to save our country and to preserve our liberties for this and other generations. Help us send this message and follow your hearts.

Want more proof that Obama is a Marxist? Just look at his campaign slogan: Forward!

Classic code language used by these and every Marxist since Marx and Engels. Look it up in Wikipedia. You will find it. It has its own section for "Forward " Do you think that it is just an accident or coincidence that they chose Forward? Or is it because it is ingrained in every fiber of their Marxist indoctrinated bodies? Vote for Liberty Not Tyranny!! God Bless the USA!

You probably don't even realize how crazy you sound. This is paranoia at its worst. Government invasion into our lives? Show me what policies over the last 4 years have brought you to this state of hysteria? Health care? There isn't even a public/single-payer option! It's STILL RUN BY THE PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES! Most people understand that a single-payer option is actually the best way to run a health system, and think the President didn't go far enough with health reform.

The only intrusions into the lives of private citizens in this country over the last 4 years have come from the Republicans and the state level -- bringing in legislation to destroy public schools, to limit women's access to preventative health care and reproductive rights, telling individuals who they are allowed to marry?

You may want to do a little reading on prominent Marxists and Marxist regimes. I can pretty much guarantee that most of them don't oversee a 5,000 point rise in their major economic index over 4 years. How is your 401k looking compared to the way the previous president left it?
