LMFD’s Newest Firefighter is Andrew Miller

He’s brand new and ready to go.

Name:  Andrew Miller

Age:  21

Hometown:  Macungie.

Family:  Andrew lives with his parents, Mark and Karen Miller, and his brother, Anthony.

Occupation:  He is employed as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Macungie Ambulance.

Fire Company:  Andrew has recently completed six months of probation as a firefighter with the Lower Macungie Fire Department

Training:  “I am currently in training, which is ongoing. I just completed the firefighter 1 class and can now start to actually fight fires.”

Describe your job with the fire company.  “Right now, I just mainly watch and assist where I am able.  As more training is completed, I will be able to do more.”

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?  “They always knew I wanted to do this, but they still worry, especially now that I’ll be doing more than simply watching and observing procedures.”

Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience.  “I don’t really have any stories yet with the firefighting, but there are some from being an EMT that I would rather not talk about.  Sometimes things don’t always turn out the way you want them to and there can be a lot of sadness.”

What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?  “Come down and check it out.  It’s like a second family here.  I’m really getting to know the others and their families and it’s nice.”
