Lower Mac Driver Accused of Nipping at Alcohol, then Ambulance Workers

Police say he was found unconscious in his vehicle.

Regardless of the exact circumstances, here's a little advice for a patient riding in an ambulance: Don't bite the hand that treats you.

Take, for example, a man whom police said was found recently unconscious in a car in Lower Macungie Township. You'd want to help him out and call an ambulance, and that's exactly what was done.

But the driver, Jerry T. Devito, 55, no address given, was not so happy to be helped, according to state police at Fogelsville.  Police arrived in front of 5632 Wood Lane at 10:50 p.m. Jan. 12 to find Devito in the back of a Macungie ambulance yelling and attempting to bite medical attendants.

Eventually, Devito was transported to an area hospital. But, police said, the investigation resulted in pending charges of driving under the influence and possession of suspected marijuana.
