Lower Mac Library Closed for 'Bug Issue'
It should reopen Wednesday or Friday at the latest, township manager says.
The Lower Macungie Library, which was closed Monday, continues to be closed today but should be open Wednesday, Bruce Fosselman, township manager said.
"It will reopen on Friday at the latest. It's a bug issue," he said, but it is not yet known what kind of bugs are involved.
Consequently, officials do not yet know if the library will have to be treated to get rid of them, Fosselman said.
Fosselman said he would disclose the details once the bug is identified.
What is known, however, is that library patrons need not fear for their safety or the safety of their children, Fosselman said.
The Lower Macungie Community Center, which operates under the same roof as the library, remains open.
Library patrons are being told that books due while the library is closed will not be assessed with overdue fines.
The library's Facebook page directs patrons to drop books in the bookdrop while the library is closed, but the bookdrop is taped shut and there is a sign there that tells would-be users they will not be assessed fines.
Township facilities are routinely examined by exterminators, Fosselman said, and harmful chemicals are never used.
"We will make sure nobody is in harm's way," Fosselman said.

Hi Mary, I just wanted to give you and anyone else worried a little bit more information. The but issue just arose yesterday morning. There is no cause for alarm for anyone who bought items at the book sale or checked materials out last week or prior.
To update from Mariella's post, we have an inspection of the entire community center building going on tonight and assuming we get the all-clear, which we expect, we will re-open tomorrow. We're just doing due diligence. We will, however, be closed Thursday and Friday for the holidays. Please check our website and Facebook page for when we will re-open. But no cause for alarm for anything bought at the book sale! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Thanks so much, Erin! It's better to have information than to guess what's going on. I always guess the worst. I'm happy to say that it's almost never as bad as I imagine!

Could be box elder bugs and/or Asiatic stinkbugs. Both are common here and try to come inside now, where it's warm. Just saw some box elder bugs on the floor of PNC bank yesterday. Not to worry, they won't harm you. The pesticides, however, will.
