Macungie's Kameron Heffner Wants to Fight Forest Fires Too

His goal is to fight forest fires.

Name:  Kameron Heffner

Age:  21

Hometown:  Macungie

Family:  Kameron lives at home with his mother, Kelly Magill.

Occupation:  He is an electrician for R G Electric.

Fire Department: Kameron volunteers with the fire police and is a brand new firefighter. He just completed his probation period at the Macungie Fire Department.

Training:  Kameron completed his basic training and essentials and was certified as a firefighter in June. However, he said, the training is ongoing and continues, as he learns more and becomes certified in the various areas of fighting fires and rescuing people from vehicles and buildings.

Why did you choose to become a firefighter/fire police? “It was something I always wanted to do.”

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?  “My mom is okay with it, but she doesn’t like the middle-of-the-night calls. She worries a little until I get home.”

What is it that keeps you coming back/continuing? “I enjoy it.  I want to eventually get into forestry firefighting and have to start somewhere. So I figured I’d get some experience with fighting fires and start training for the forestry end. My goal is to someday work with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.”

What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?  “Do it. Just do it. If you’re not sure that you’ll like it, then try it. It’s the only way you’ll know if it’s for you.”
