At 90, Jessie Hieter Still Makes Hoagies
Her efforts raise money for the firefighters.

Family: Jessie was married twice and has four children—three sons and one daughter. She is also blessed with a step-daughter, 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Occupation: Following her 1939 graduation from Emmaus High School, Jessie worked at the Brass Rail as a waitress for 24 years. She was also the caregiver for her second husband, who had Parkinson’s Disease.
Fire Company: Macungie Fire Department Auxiliary
Describe your job with the auxiliary and how you got involved: “I have been in the Ladies Auxiliary for 22 years and am one of the trustees. I got involved through a neighbor who belonged. When I come to a meeting, I usually get the coffee going for everyone, especially when it’s cold out. I have also been in charge of our hoagie-making here for many years — getting the helpers, ordering and arranging for the delivery of the ingredients, keeping count of everything, and other things. We usually make between 1,100 and 1,500 hoagies.”
What would you tell people interested in joining? “We need members. Anybody can join. Just come on out on a meeting night. [The first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m.]”

Bless Hessie,s heart for doing what she does for the fire company and ladies Aux.I was a fire Fighter and asst.fire chief for Sta.39 which is seisholtzville and to that was an fire figter with other depts for over 30 years untill the chief at Sta, 39 had his problems with one of my sons who was also an asst chief.Now I live in Deleware due to injuries I recieved at my job in Pa. but still always have good feelings to Vol.of any sort.

.Thank you for being there to serve the community in their times of need. It is a tough job that many time goes unappreciated. My father volunteered as fire police with Station 30 and was often called out on holidays and in the wee hours of the morning. As a side note--I live a couple miles from Seisholtzville! Thanks again for your service to the community
