Macungie Mayor Will Not Run for Reelection
Rick Hoffman says the job is "not what he signed on for."
Macungie Mayor Rich Hoffman said in a Morning Call story on Sunday that he will not run for reelection when his term ends at the end of 2013.
It would take "droves" of supporters to change his mind, he said in the story.
The story gives a comprehensive look at the mayor's term, beginning with his victory in November 2009 with 266 votes, the volley of lawsuits that have cost the borough about $90,000 and the mayor's recent unsuccessful attempt to track the movements of Macungie police cars by equipping then with private GPS units
Most recently the mayor and council have been struggling with the attempt to either provide or prohibit 24/7 police coverage in the borough with Macungie police officers.
The mayor says that the occasional open shift will not inhibit the safety of the borough. Council and several citizens have said they would like to see 24/7 coverage.

Why does he have to wait until 2013? He needs to quit now before he does any more damage and let the citizens of Macungie start to repair the 2 and 1/2 years of damage he has caused. I just hope he is being honest in his statement. I have this sneaking little feeling that this is just another ploy to get his picture and name in the paper. Please I hope I am wrong!

First of all he has yet to tell the truth about anything so I won't believe it until I see it. Second, it takes a lot of "brass" to claim he has sustained "aggravation". If anyone has been aggravated it has been the citizens of the boro along with the police department. Third, if it has been that bad then why wait? Do everyone a favor and leave now so someone with the proper intentions can serve the remainder of his term. No one loose any sleep over him leaving now. In fact, it may be cause for a boro wide celebration. Fourth, even if he does not run (and he didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning) someone with common sense who has the boro's best interest at heart needs to step up and run.
Lastly, I am still waiting for an answer to the question that has been asked repeatedly. Name one positive thing he has done in his 2 1/2 years in office. Every single thing associated with Rick Hoffman has been negative. Do everyone a favor and LEAVE NOW!!!!!!

John Rogers....we could not articulate this any better!! You addressed all key points! If Hoffman is sincere and he truly feels he has been unduly "aggravated"....LEAVE NOW!!!

I just got done singing the Halelujah chorus. Why wait quit now!! Sadly the borough did sign you up but since you are unhappy with the your job please quit!! You can sink back into your life and stop embarrassing yourself and the borough. We have problems that need to be addressed and you have no interest in anything but destroying the police dept and leaving us broke......go already!!!!!

"Droves of supporters"????? He doesn't have that many relatives. If Hoffman wants to do his very first honorable thing as mayor (he hasn't done anything honorable yet), he can resign now and not wait. That would be the honorable thing to do.

Soooo right....he didn't even have "DROVES" of supporters to vote him into office....Macungie residents were asleep on that day!! Hopefully they will wake up for the next election so we do not need to repeat this debacle!!!!

I'm sure that 5 of the 200-something people who voted for you will be devastated. I hear Florida may be in your future? Might I recommend Cuba? And please take your kids with you.
