Russell W. Bortz, 88, of Macungie, died Sept. 10, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Annetta A. (Stephen) Bortz and the late Evelyn E. ‘Betty’ (Sittler) Bortz, who died in 2001. Born in Alburtis, he was a son of the late George C. and Mary E. (Heller) Bortz. He was employed at Plant 5c of Mack Trucks, Inc. for 44 years. He was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, was a charter member of Robert M. Fegely V.F.W. Post 8282, and held memberships in Emmaus Mercantile Club, ARC, Macungie Fire Company, and Howard L. Peter American Legion Post 576. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed golfing, spectator sports and gardening.

Survivors: With his wife are his son, Donald R. and his wife, Barbara (Strohl) Bortz, of Fogelsville; grandchildren Michael Bortz and his wife, Andrea, and Wendy, wife of Jeffrey Rice; 3 great-grandchildren; step-son, Gary Wetherhold; and son-in-law, David Long. Ralph was predeceased by his daughter, Jane E. Long, and by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Services: Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Friday in Schmoyer Funeral Home, 8926 Brookdale Road, Breinigsville. A calling hour will begin at 10:00 a.m. Contributions may be made to Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown 18103.
