Shelby Garner Supports Firefighters

As co-president of the Lower Mac F.D. Women’s Association, she organizes events and raises money.

 

Name:  Shelby Garner

Age:  24

Hometown:  Lower Macungie Township

Family:  Shelby lives in the township with Gabriel McNabb, a member of the Lower Macungie Fire Company.

Occupation:  She is a hair stylist at “She Salon & Day Spa” in Emmaus.

Fire Company:  Shelby has been a member of the Lower Macungie Fire Company Women’s Association for the past five years.

Describe your job with the ladies auxiliary and how you got involved: “I am the co-president of the organization and am usually involved with organizing of the various events we do to earn money for the department.”

Do you have family members involved with the fire department?  “Gabe’s entire family are members of the department. Gabe is the captain, his dad, Brent, is the assistant chief, Uncle Jim is the deputy chief, brother-in-law, Joseph Thompson, is a captain, and his grandfather, Allen, is a former chief.”

How do you feel about your loved one putting his/her life in danger?  “It can be very nerve-wracking sometimes. But they love it and I support them.”

What would you tell people interested in joining the ladies auxiliary?  “Get involved. You will be involved with members of the community as well as support the fire department. You will make lots of friends here. We are like another family.”
