Car Runs Red Light, Collides on Route 222

One driver is moderately hurt as other runs red light in Lower Macungie, police say.

Two motorists recently were injured -- one moderately -- when one ran a red light and was struck by the other at Route 222 in Lower Macungie Township, according to police.

The sport-utility vehicle driven by Lisa M. Lesher, 32, of Macungie was stopped southbound at a red light on Krocks Road at 12:21 p.m. July 6. The light turned green and she began to pull out when a Honda Accord heading west on Route 222 did not stop for a red light for an unknown reason, according to state police at Fogelsville. That car was driven by Katherine G. Ariza, 23 of Allentown.

Police said Ariza's car entered the intersection and was struck by Lesher's SUV.

Lesher was moderately injured, police said. Ariza had a minor injury. Both were taken to an area hospital by Macungie Ambulance Corps.

Ariza received a traffic citation for the accident, police said. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Offending car - when light turns amber, (for us all) that's not "try to beat it," that's "hit the brakes."
