The Jaindl Development Issue: Take Our Poll
Lower Macungie's Zoning Hearing Board decided this week to dismiss a challenge to zoning changes that would allow David Jaindl's proposed development to proceed.
The Lower Macungie Township Zoning Hearing Board sided with David Jaindl and the township commissioners this week when it rejected claims that residents were not given enough notice about zoning changes that would enable Jaindl to develop more than 600 acres of farmland. The commissioners said they were trying to prevent Jaindl from constructing a quarry on the land.

No, and the reason is the alternative zoning amendment the commissioners rammed through without public input allowing for 700 houses, a million sq ft of warehouses and commercial is far worse impact wise than any Quarry which would have ever been built. These impacts including traffic (tractor trailers), infrastructure impacts ($), quality of life, home values and environmental (long term of warehousing vs. the lifespan of a quarry)
Drive through Fogelsville. Are you impacted by the warehouses on your drive? Drive past the Quarry in S. Whitehall. (If you can even find it, I know ppl who drive right by it and not even know it's there) Are you impacted by the Quarry on your drive?

The township Commissioners never seriously evaluated the quarry threat to determine how much the township and state could reduce its size and impact on the neighborhood. They never allowed the public to have a say in how to respond to the quarry threat. They simply made a secret deal with Jaindl to change the zoning to allow him to do what he really wanted to do - develop his land with warehouses, commercial sprawl and high-density housing.

I think we should join the plot to macadam every inch of Lower Macungie Township. Who wants to see trees, rivers and birds. We need more cement and macadam! It's called development and jobs. Once macadam'd we can ride the flood water runoff, create mold removal jobs, and replace these forests and farmland with bill boards so we can reminisce of our past. It is the macadam plan, skip regional planning. It's not required. Nothing should obstruct the Real Estate Industry as stated at the last LMT meeting. The small matter of ethics, influence, dual interests, conflicts of interest, and court rulings about the perception of conflicts of interest.... well none of that matters here in macadam land. Commissioners please do not recuse yourself until ALL the land is macadamed.
I suspect the big pocket developer with the land destruction company needs the aid of our tax dollars to fight our own citizens since groups like this dare to ask questions and get in the way.
I can't wait for the big 18 wheelers servicing NYC to come to our township. The fresh air needs an infusion of aromatic diesel exhaust. It's so good for us small people to have such visionary leadership modeling communication and transparency. The sad part is Mr Jaindl lives so far away and will not get to breathe the diesel fumes too. Too bad he will only have another million in profit for legal fees to macadam the next community, he's such an asset to farmers and the countryside. God Bless America

I would really like to see somebody from the 21 % of supporters of the Jaindl rezoning in this poll make a comment. We have three anti-zoning comments but no pro-zoning comments. What the heck ? Are the supporters afraid to speak up and explain their positions ? Maybe they want more warehouse jobs and fast-food jobs and mini-market jobs. Or maybe they want more tax base so the township can start charging a property tax on everybody. Maybe the supporters don't care if the last bits of farmland and natural beauty get wiped out and traffic congestion gets worse. Speak up supporters, all 21 percent of you.

I'm guessing it's our three employees at the Frederick group who sit on the BOC voting over and over and over

As a resident of an area that borders the development area, I would much rather see a quarry!!!!!!!!!

Yup... The size that could have ever really been built is MUCH more preferable to warehouseville. Classic Jaindl LULU (locally unpopular land usage) tactic. He wanted warehouses, he's doing everything to get them. Thats where the money is for him. Our elected officials either knew this or really did little to no research on the Quarry option. Not sure whats worse....The more I dig and the more I learn I'm more and more convinced the quarry was never really an option. At least on the massive scale presented. No way, not even close. Warehousing, high density residential and commercial will have forever negative effects on the area. Look at Fogelsville.... Look at the tractor trailer traffic all over the township on local roads already from warehouses already built.
