Editor's Note: I received the following statement via email last night regarding the fatal accident on Lower Macungie Road on Wednesday. It is published here, with the writer's permission, in its entirety. -Jennifer Marangos, Editor, Emmaus Patch

I was a witness to the crash yesterday on Lower Macungie Rd...

As soon as it registered in my mind what was happening in front of me, I pulled over to the side of the road and called 911. I was out of my car speaking w/ the operator looking for the name of the school as I was unfamiliar with the name of the road. And explained that it was serious they needed to send help immediately!

I cautiously approached the woman in the pontiac and told her that help was on the way. She was crying in pain but otherwise not responsive. And then I spoke w/ a young man who had come from the opposite direction about what I saw happen. Then another woman came running up from behind me and she was just so amazing, went into action (also was on her phone w/ 911). Within moments another woman was there directing the traffic that was trying to go past the crash.

Then 2 men pulled up on the opposite side of the road and were medics getting their emergency bag from the trunk and began checking on the passengers in the back of the of the pontiac.

It all happened so fast, within minutes help arrived.

The accident was so tragic, and it was exactly that, an accident as the woman driving the mini-van suddenly lost control of her vehicle swerved into the pontiac hitting it head on. Her rear passenger side tire was blown out which may be what happened.

I was asked to move my car as the emergency vehicles arrived which is when I left.

All of the victims are in my prayers.

I just wanted to let you know that there were many concerned citizens on the scene.

"I was informed about the article (asking if people would have helped at the accident) by a neighbor that I had spoken to yesterday after the accident. Although I live in Emmaus, now a caregiver for my elderly parents, I am from Seattle, which is why I didn't know the name of the road and was not familiar with the Emmaus Patch. Thank you.
