Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Last year, Domino’s started a campaign that basically said “Our pizza is bad, so we’re going to make it better.”  But did they stay true to their word?  Not long ago, as a pizza lover, I always preferred Pizza Hut over Domino’s. Domino's was definitely not my favorite. But after hearing so much about this campaign, I had to check it out. Domino’s menu has been expanding for a while, now. It features a variety of traditional pizzas – hand-tossed, deep dish, crunchy thin, and Brooklyn style – along with specialty pizzas like Honolulu Hawaiian, Pacific Veggie, and Buffalo Chicken. It also offers…
If you’re looking for a place that separates dining and drinking, Maxx Regal is the place to go.  Formerly the 1760 House restaurant, Maxx Regal Bar & Grille in Trexlertown aims to keep some of its historic charm in the business. The bar side of the Maxx Regal stays dimly lit, with traces of the wooden beams that made up the original 18th-century structure.  It also provides lounge chairs and tables along the wall for customers who want to hang out after a long week and specials like $2 domestic drafts on Mondays.  In the back is a small game room that includes a pool table, but in between …
When Dickey’s Barbeque Pit opened in the little plaza across from Walmart, I had never heard of the family-owned chain before.  But after hearing good things from friends of mine, I finally decided to give it a try. Since it’s so small, there’s not much of an atmosphere, but the smell definitely catches your attention.  As you walk in, you’re hit with a distinct scent of barbeque sauce, meat, and cornbread. Since the place began in Dallas, Texas, the menu is all about Southern barbeque and comfort food.  Traditionally, you choose a sandwich (they come in three sizes) or a meat plate (which …
Krocks Pub & Grille is one of my favorite local spots.  I especially love it in the summertime when their outdoor bar and seating area called “The Hut” is open.  It’s a great place to grab a bite to eat and a beer with your friends (even when summer is long gone); they have a pretty extensive golf-themed menu and some decent beers on tap (like Sam Adams, Labatt Blue, Blue Moon, and Guinness). On the menu, there are plenty of appetizers (like Homemade Chicken Fingers, Santa Fe Eggrolls, and Rangoons) and a list of different fries and nachos, if you’re looking for something to snack on.  As far…
Despite its name, Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza restaurant & bar did not originate in Boston.  In fact, there isn’t a Boston’s Restaurant anywhere in Massachusetts.  It’s actually a chain restaurant that originated in Canada.  And it all began with pizza. If you haven’t been to one yet, just picture a Red Robin with more of a sports bar feel. The two restaurants are very comparable – they both have a casual atmosphere, modern décor with similar color schemes, and feature “gourmet” specials (Boston’s with gourmet pizza, and Red Robin’s with gourmet burgers).  But Boston’s boasts a slew of flat-…
The great thing about the Sands Casino is that if you ever get hungry, you’re already surrounded by restaurants.  And when two of those restaurants are owned by the famous “bam” chef Emeril Lagasse, how can you go wrong? Having never been to either of Emeril’s restaurants, my friend and I were a little tight on money, so we opted for the more reasonably-priced of the two: Burgers and More by Emeril (instead of Emeril’s Chop House). The atmosphere is fun – made to look like a retro diner, with neon lights around the bar seating, wooden bench booths, and a chrome kitchen where you can watch the…
As soon as you walk into On the Border, you’re greeted with an atmosphere so colorful, you won’t know where to look first.  Round wooden beams crisscross the high ceiling, lights are strung corner to corner and every wall you look at is either stone, brick, turquoise, or gold.  Potted plants line the half-walls and dozens of Mexican-inspired ceramic plates, clay pottery, and copper decorations splatter the dining room.  And if that’s not enough, there’s a giant “Fajita Grill” archway where you can watch several cooks play with fire. On the Border’s menu is influenced by traditional Mexican …
Tucked among the winding roads leading up Bear Creek Mountain, The Inn at Maple Grove is not only a fine dining restaurant, but also a charming part of the Lehigh Valley’s history.  Built in 1783 as a place for saw and grist mill laborers to rest, it is now haunted by a ghost named Charlie (who is introduced to you at the top of The Inn’s menu).  There are two widely-known stories that might have led to Charlie’s appearance: an Indian was rumored to have been hung in the “common room” and a hotel guest was rumored to have been murdered in a closet on the second story.  Unsure of which story …
