Friday's program combines a screening of the documentary "Swing Jazz," set to begin at 6:30 p.m. with an 8 p.m. performance of the Kutztown University Jazz Ensemble.
Both parts of the program, which is free and open to the public, will take place in Schaeffer Auditorium, 15200 Kutztown Road, Kutztown. Contact Lower Macungie Library at (610) 966-6864 to register.
According to the Lower Macungie Library website, Lower Macungie Library is one of 50 sites nationwide selected to host the "America's Music" series. The program uses documentary film screenings and scholar-led discussions of 20th-century American popular music to teach audiences about "uniquely American musical genres including blues and gospel, Broadway, jazz, bluegrass and country, rock n’ roll, mambo, and hip hop," the website says.
"America's Music" is funded in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. ArtsQuest also is a major partner for presenting this music series.
