Cougars Winter Track Returns Sixteen From Championships

On Sunday, March 2, members of the 2014 Lickity-Split COUGARS Athletics (LSA) Youth Winter Track Club completed the local portion of their season - the Indoor Age Group Bring-A-Friend Championships. The event was held at 8 am at Lehigh University’s sprawling Rauch Field House, in Bethlehem, Pa. The meet annually attracts the top sprinters, distance runners and field event athletes from the Middle Atlantic Region, pre-school through high school.   

Local athletes returning home, most with personal bests, included: Girls 8-and-Under 60 meter dash: Georgia Long, 30th (14.05) and Isabella Miranda, 34th (16.03); Boys 8-and-Under, long jump: Nathan Merena, 4th, (2.66m); 60 meter dash: Nathaniel Wanzer, 21st (11.79), Benjamin Mertz, 27th (12.62) and Evan Mertz, 33rd (12.98); Girls 9-10, 60 meter dash: Kylee Casola, 25th (44.85) and Carla Mertz, 26th (44.95); Girls 11-12, 60 meter dash: Jessica Merena, 15th (10.42), Josephine Mertz, 17th (10.76) and Emma Jago, 19th (10.97); and, high jump: Julia Luisser, 5th, (1.15m); Boys 11-12 high jump: Jonathan Hansen, 3rd (1.05m); Girls 13-14, 1500 meter run: Amanda Murray, 5th, (6:20.93); Boys HS, long jump: Ryan Casola, 10th, (4.58m); and, 60 meter dash: Alexander Soto, 8th, (7.77).

The LSA COUGARS are the only winter (and summer) track and field team for youth in the quad-county area (Berks-Montgomery-Bucks-Lehigh) and accepts girls and boys ages 4-18+, no experience necessary, special needs included.
