Bites Nearby: Gourmet Buffet and Grill

All-you-can-eat buffet blends Asian and American cuisine

The vicinity of Cedar Crest and Hamilton Boulevards is replete with eating establishments, and now there’s one more option in the neighborhood. Gourmet Buffet and Grill is in the Dorneyville Shopping Center, around the corner from the Chicken Lounge and Teppan Hibachi Steak House.

Gourmet Buffet and Grill is exclusively an all-you-can-eat buffet. Diners make their own selections from hundreds of items displayed in more than half a dozen large buffet islands. The restaurant is open seven days a week, serving both lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and dinner all day on Sundays. The adult buffet price is $6.99 for lunch and $10.49 for dinner, with discounts for children and seniors.

The interior of the restaurant is spacious and open. Immediately upon entering, guests are greeted by fountains, koi ponds and distinctive Asian décor. And although Chinese and Japanese cuisine figures prominently in the offerings, there is also a full complement of American fare as well. Featured selections are made to order by chefs at the hibachi grill. Fresh food changes daily in the buffet, including lots of seafood (shrimp, snow crab, mussels), chicken, pork, fish, fried dumplings, themed main dishes, a sushi bar, extensive salad bar and plenty of vegetables and side dishes. Desserts include an assortment of carefully crafted pastries, as well as puddings and ice cream.

In addition to dining in, patrons may also stop at Gourmet Buffet and Grill and make their own carry-out, sold by the pound. A separate dining room is available for private parties.

We received a 15% off coupon for the new Gourmet Buffet restaurant, so my husband and I tried it. While the selection is impressive, the food was disappointing. The clams had zero flavor, and the "butter" they offer to dip the clams in tastes like Dawn dish detergent. Everything was just bland and we ended up leaving hungry. We just couldn't justify wasting calories on a meal like that. For a good Chinese buffet, the best one is still China Wok in the Trexlertown WalMart shopping center. They underwent a bad period over the summer, but the food is again delicious and the price is right.

Gourmet Buffet was a real treat. We had a half-off coupon and decided to try it and we're glad we did. The food is delicious and plentiful and the restaurant is really beautiful with many booths & tables. Even though it is a big place, the decor made it feel very comfortable and private. We also love China Wok and will continue to go there but now we'll be visiting the Gourmet Buffet as well. We're very fortunate to have not one but two excellent Chinese buffets right in our own backyard!
