East Macungie Road Will Again Have Two Lanes Open

A section of the road washed out during a heavy rain in October of 2010.

The work on East Macungie Road is nearing completion, and the township anticipates it will reopen today, according to Dan DeLong, manager.

After a heavy rainstorm on Oct. 13, 2010, a portion of pipe washed out, creating a dangerous situation on the road located between Buckeye Road and Route 100. The Eyer Middle School campus complex sits at the intersection of East Macungie and Buckeye roads.

DeLong said the roadway was then restricted “to a single lane width with stop signs on either side.”

East Macungie Road was closed July 11, when the township’s contractor, Imperial Excavation and Paving, began the replacement project. The total project cost is approximately $75,000, said DeLong.
