Five Family Events for the Weekend

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Here are our family best bets of the week: a DIY race car, two Dr. Seuss celebrations, zoo animals at the mall, and an historic opportunity:

1. They will build it if you come.

Where/When: 9 a.m. to noon March 5 at The Home Depot, 1951 Glenwood Street SW, Allentown.
Why Go: Kids ages five through 12 learn do-it-yourself skills and basic tool safety, while completing a construction project with an adult partner. This week they'll be making a Home Depot race car. Each child also receives a kid-sized version of the signature orange Home Depot apron and a project pin. If you can't make it to the workshop, keep in mind that you can also buy some of the kits online to build another day.
Pricing: Free

2. A chance to see who's who.
 
Where/When: 10;30 a.m. March 5 at the .
Why Go: The library's "Who's a Who? Are You??" celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday will feature story time, a craft and, for those who come dressed up as a Dr. Seuss character or a Dr. Seuss-inspired character, a chance to win a Seuss-inspired prize.
Pricing: Free. No sign-up required. Recommended for children aged 3-10.

3. Mammals, reptiles and penguiuns, oh my!

Where/When:  11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 5 at the Lehigh Valley Mall, Route 22 and Route 145 N, Whitehall Township.
Why Go: Lehigh Valley Zoo educators will use live animals from the zoo to teach attendees about the range of creatures that live on our planet. There will be a special appearance by one of the zoo's African penguins. Formal presentations are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. The animals will be available for "meet and greets" for the rest of the scheduled visit.
Pricing: Free.

4. They will, they will like green eggs and ham.

Where/When: 9-10 a.m. March 5 and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 6 at The Crayola Factory at Two Rivers Landing, Easton.
Why Go: Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday with a Green Eggs & Ham breakfast. Enjoy story time with Dr. Seuss characters including the Cat-in-the-Hat.

5. President's Day Weekend, the sequel.

Where/When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 5 and noon to 4 p.m. March 6 at the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum , 432 W. Walnut Street, Allentown.
Why Go: Explore the popular image of our nation’s presidents from George Washington to President Obama as you tour the museum's American Presidency exhibit.
Pricing: Free to members. Non-member adults, $6; non-member children, $3.
