Five Family Events for the Weekend

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Here are an Earth Day-themed scavenger hunt, library time with pops, eggs and more at the zoo, Earth Day at the mall and a disco birthday bash: 

1. Help save the planet and have some fun. 

Where/When: Start at the , 338 Main St., and then embark on an Eco Scavenger Hunt that will take you to participating businesses within a two-block radius of the Triangle. Rules, guidelines and entry forms are available at the Emmaus Jewel Shop.  Hunt runs from Thursday, April 14 through Saturday, April 16.

Why Go: The scavenger hunt is part of a full schedule of Earth Day activities sponsored by the and the Emmaus and Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council. Completed Eco Scavenger Hunt entry forms and all 19 of the required items must be brought to Emmaus Community Park on April 16 by 12:30 p.m. to be entered into the prize drawing.

Pricing: FREE. Open to all ages. Children age 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

2. Story time with dad and a potential bubble bath for mom. 

Where/When: , 3450 Brookside Rd., Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m.

Why Go: “Daddy and Me” story time is a chance for dads and their little ones to hear some stories, do some crafts and give mom a morning off.

Pricing: Free. 

3. Another scavenger hunt and an Earth Day party too. 

Where/When: Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Throughout the zoo and throughout the day, you can enjoy a variety of Earth Day activities, as well as an “Eggciting Scavenger Hunt” designed to teach kids about the zoo’s egg-laying animals. Children are invited to bring baskets to fill with treats too.

Pricing: FREE with zoo membership or general admission.  

4. Another chance to celebrate Earth Day 

Where/When: Lehigh Valley Mall, Route 22 and Route 145 N, Whitehall, Saturday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: There will be a variety of crafts and coloring activities for kids of all ages, plus on-site recycling, the chance to support the Cell Phones for Soldiers program, as well as speakers and giveaways.

Pricing: FREE! 

5. Party like it’s 1971 

Where/When: The Crayola Factory at Two Rivers Landing, Easton, Saturday, April 16, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Here's your chance to enjoy the next installment in The Crayola Factory's year-long 15th birthday extravaganza which began on New Year's Eve 2010. This time it’s a disco party, including a 70s dress-up contest and a disco ball. There will also be a chance to sing Happy Birthday with Tip and enjoy ice cream, music and games. 

Pricing: $10 per person, which does not include admission into The Crayola Factory. There is a discount if you want to purchase a party ticket and Crayola Factory admission. For information and reservations call 610-515-8000.
