Five Family Events for the Weekend

Trees, dogs, animals, fish, a vase and a box -- who could ask for anything more?

Here are a some animal activities and a couple of Mother's Day projects:

1. Trees and animals – a natural pairing.

Where/When: Lehigh Valley Zoo, 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, on Saturday, April 30 during normal zoo hours. (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Why Go: It’s an Arbor Day celebration combined with an animal enrichment activity. That means there will be zookeeper talks and other special activities with the animals throughout the day.
Pricing: Enrichment activities are included in the zoo admission price. Tickets for children ages 2 to 11 cost $7.75 and adult tickets are $9.75.

2. Things are goin’ to the dogs.

Where/When:  at Saucon Valley on Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Paws on The Promenade is being billed as “fun” for dogs and their owners and will include a charity pet parade, with prizes for best dressed, most creative and pet/owner look alike. Plus, there will be animal shelter representatives on hand, doggie yoga, “Yappy Hour” and more.
Pricing: There are fees associated with various activities. Visit The Promenade Shops Web site for more details.

3. It's a litttle fishy, but in a good way.

Where/When: Lil - Le - Hi Trout Hatchery, 2901 Fish Hatchery Road, Allentown at any point over the weekend that the weather cooperates.
Why Go: There’s plenty of open space to enjoy, with grassy areas for running around or picnicking, walking trails to explore and oodles of fish to feed.
Pricing: Could be FREE, but a dollar’s worth of fish food brings lots of entertainment. Bring quarters for the vending machine, in case you go when the office is closed.

4. Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

Where/When: A.C. Moore, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There are two A.C. Moore stores within nine miles of Emmaus/Upper Milford: one in the Airport Center mall on Airport Road (home to Target and The Christmas Tree Shop among others) and the other on MacArthur Road in Whitehall.
Why Go: You’ll get the chance to create a special keepsake box for mom for Mother’s Day. She’ll love it.
Pricing: Decorating is FREE. You need to purchase the photo box.

5. Plan ahead for her special day.

Where/When: Participating Lowe's stores on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. 


Why Go: Mother's Day is May 8. Kids can build a heart flower vase for mom, which is a win-win. Dad’ll be off the hook for a gift and mom will get a morning off while Dad takes the kids to Lowe’s. According to the Lowe's build and grow Web site, each participant also receives a free apron, goggles, a project themed patch and a certification of merit upon completion of their project.
Pricing: Free. Seating is limited. Sign up online and select the closest participating store that has open seats.
