We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.
Here are Dr. Seuss, kid safety, open gym, Legos and a free fiesta feast:
FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK
1. Dr. Seuss is always right on Target.
Where/When: All Target Stores, Saturday, Feb. 26, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Why Go: Target is supporting the National Education Association’s Read Across America program with store giveaways, coupons and readings of Dr. Seuss favorites.

2. It’s better than an apple a day.
Where/When: Kasych Family Pavilion at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH), Cedar Crest and I-78, Saturday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: According to the LVH Web site, kid safety day is a chance to focus on keeping your kids healthy by exploring wellness activities with your children and learning more about the offerings of LVH. Activities will range from a virtual tour of the new children's emergency room and interactive games that teach kids about avoiding trauma/burn injuries to fitness classes and effective hand-washing demonstrations.

3. They’ll have a ball. Or two.
Where/When: Lower Macungie Community Center, 3400 Brookside Road, Saturday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m. to noon
Why Go: Open gym is a great way to let the kids run around and burn some energy in a clean, safe environment. Parents can either run around too, or sit in the bleachers and watch the action. There are built-in basketball hoops in the gym and the community center typically provides a rack of kickballs, basketballs and two giant (like three-foot diameter) green and black soccer balls.

4. Don’t leggo your Legos.
Where/When: Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main Street, Saturday, Feb. 26, 2 to 4 p.m.
Why Go: All you need are some Legos and a desire to build. Don’t worry about working up an appetite, the library will provide cookies and lemonade too.
Pricing: Free
5. They’ll eat something other than chicken nuggets for a change.
Where/When: Fiesta Ole, 1116 Chestnut Street, Emmaus, Sunday, Feb. 27.
Why Go: With the restaurant’s “kids-eat-free-on-Sundays” offer you can get the niños to expand their palates without a great risk to your pocketbook.
