LMMS Wins 8th Annual Student Horror Film Festival

Lower Macungie Middle School took first place in the middle school category at the 8th Annual Student Horror Film Festival, sponsored by the Emmaus Arts Commission. Winners were announced Sunday at the Emmaus Theatre.

Lower Macungie Middle School took the top spot among middle school entries in the 8th Annual Student Horror Film Festival, according to a press release by the Emmaus Arts Commission. Parkland High School won first place in the high school division.

The winning entry titled “A Visit from Lulu,” was screened on Sunday afternoon at the Emmaus Theatre along with other winning submissions. Cash prizes and trophies were awarded during a special ceremony during the festival that recognized all of the winning filmmakers for their work.

The 2013 Student Horror Film Festival actually began on Oct. 10 when filmmakers in middle school and high school were invited to a free, kickoff “how-to” class with industry professionals.

During the kick-off event, participants were provided filmmaking tips and techniques and given the theme and genre for the festival. Students were then given 96 hours to conceptualize, shoot, edit and produce a six-minute (maximum length) film.
