Bites Nearby: Chick-fil-A

Family-friendly convenience, community spirit, and lots of chicken!

In many ways Chick-fil-A is a typical fast food restaurant where diners order at the counter, receive their food on trays and carry it to tables (or carry out).

Because the chain doesn’t serve hamburgers, however, it capitalizes on distinguishing itself from ubiquitous burger joints. Even the renegade cows of their long-running advertising campaign, who paint “EAT MOR CHIKIN” on billboards, understand that their lives will be spared if people eat chicken instead of beef. The local independently owned and operated restaurant is on Hamilton Blvd. at Mill Creek Road in Lower Macungie.

Chicken in various forms dominates the menu. There are chicken sandwiches, strips, nuggets, wraps and breast of chicken soup. Chargrilled chicken salads are served with fresh fruit or garden vegetables, plus mixin’s like croutons, granola and sunflower kernels.

Chicken knows no times constraints--there’s even a chicken breakfast burrito. The side dishes aren’t what you’d get everywhere else: waffle potato fries and carrot and raisin salad with pineapple chunks. Hand-spun milk shakes in several flavors, cheesecake and fudge nut brownies offer a sweet ending to a meal.

Tuesdays are family nights, with free activities and crafts for kids from 6-7 p.m. Community involvement is important at Chick-fil-A.  Schools and non-profit groups are invited to apply for the Spirit Nights fundraising program, in which a group can receive a portion of the restaurant’s profits on a designated night.

All Chick-fil-A franchises are closed on Sundays, because founder S. Truett Cathy strongly believes in giving employees the chance to rest, spend time with family and friends, and worship if they choose.
