Weis Superstore Opens in Fogelsville

Shoppers packed the store to welcome a new neighbor and to take advantage of bargains.

Neighbors, well-wishers and bargain hunters flocked to the new Weis Market in Fogelsville on Sunday to see what all the hubbub was about.

And they were well rewarded.

The store opened at 6 a.m. which is when neighbor Tyler Kuhns, 13, dropped in to see what was going on and to enjoy some cappuccino and a muffin.

His mom Vickie, and sister Kaitlyn, 12, waited until the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. to join him.

"We live right next door," Vickie said, "so we're very happy about out new neighbor."

The store was fairly crowded at 9:03 a.m. when Patch met up with Customer Service Manager Paul Berkle who has worked for Sunbury, Northumberland County-based Weis for two years in Kutztown, Hamburg, Reading and Pottstown.

This store, with all its environmentally friendly features -- such as the lights along the frozen food aisle that dim when nobody's there and brighten with a motion sensor -- is the best yet, he said.

From the laundry supplies aisle, Kelly Colby of Breinigsville said she loves the new Weis because it means she doesn't have to travel to Walmart or Giant in Trexlertown for supplies. With a busy young family, that means a lot to her, she said.

And Diana and Jeremy Buchanan of Breinigsville said they also were thrilled with the store, its layout and the freshness of the products they found.

From behind two heaping carts full of groceries Jeremy he could only find one flaw:

"They forgot to put cup holders in the buggies," he said.

When will Weis open a gasoline station? I live a mile from the new Weis but had to travel 10 miles to the Weis in Schnectsville to redeem my 30 cent off a gallon reward. Ten thousand vehicles a week day travel south on rt 100 past the new Weiss. I'm pretty certain a gas station at the new Weiss would be a very lucrative venture!

we were told the permit was denied by the township.

The store is nothing special , the prices are still sky high and the food quality is below average. The associates and store manager is unprofessional and the workers are rude. I would recommend shopping at the new Giant in Trexlertown instead. Better food quality and better prices

The Giant bonus card also offers gas points and was not rejected and permitted to put up the new gas station.

At jesska, some of the prices in this store are actually CHEAPER!! than other local weis stores due to location. i frequently shop here. i find myself in aisles by myself, cashiers are always available and its a much more enjoyable shopping experience. I drive 10-15 min out of my way in order to go to this weis vs going to macungie
