Have you met LUCAS? Have you heard the term before? It stands for the Lund University Cardiac Arrest System. Believe it or not, our own Macungie Ambulance Corps is one of the first local organizations to have it as part of their emergency goodie box!
Today I was introduced to a guy who met "LUCAS" up close and personal on April 5.
Bob Hunsicker of Mertztown was working in a trench for Lewis E. Hunsicker Excavating when he collapsed at a worksite in Shimerville. Luckily, one of his work mates was familiar with CPR and began immediately.

The 911 call brought out Macungie Ambulance Corps and Citizens Fire Company of Upper Milford Township. Upon arriving, the ambulance workers took over and introduced Bob to their new corps member, "LUCAS." The automatic chest compression device doesn't tire and has amazing success rates in the field. Working together, the emergency responders transported Bob to Lehigh Valley Health Network's Cedar Crest site for the care you need "when moments count."

Bob told me he's thankful to everyone for what they did that day in April. He's staying busy and smiling in a way that tells more than words ever could.
