Balancing Macungie's 2012 is Proving a Challenge

Expenditures are down but revenues are down more.

Macungie faces serious budget talks in the coming weeks.

Council members have held two budget workshops so far and some difficult facts have come to light:

* Proposed expenditures for 2012 are 12.2 percent lower than they were for 2011.

* Revenues ishave decreased 23 percent -- $200,000 -- from last year.

* Collections of Earned Income Taxes have dropped 10 percent.

* Real Estate transfers are down significantly because people are not buying homes.

The next budget workshop meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the auditorium of the Macungie Institute.
