Camping Is Affordable Family Fun

June is National Great Outdoors Month.

Summer vacation season is upon us. But if you’re looking to do something a little bit different this year, why not try a family camping trip? June is National Great Outdoors Month and many campgrounds are offering outdoor deals the whole family can enjoy.

An Affordable Option: With the economy the way it is, many people are looking for cheaper options for summer vacations. Camping is an affordable way to spend some time together, without missing out on any of the fun of a family vacation.

To put it in perspective, the average cost of a hotel for three nights is $300. Add in food, gas, and travel expenses, and you’re digging deep in your pockets to put together a trip.

On the other hand, renting a cabin at a campground for three nights costs about $170. That’s about half-price! Plus, you’ll be cooking your own food, and many campgrounds are within just miles of our area.

During the month of June, campgrounds associated with gocampingamerica.com are offering 20 percent discounts. There are dozens of those sites within 25 miles of the Lehigh Valley.

An Active Outing: As part of their “Let’s Move” campaign, President Obama and First Lady Michelle are promoting camping and other outdoor activities for the summer. The Obama’s are on the forefront of the fight against childhood obesity. They are pushing parents to have their kids spend more time outdoors playing and exploring nature.

Many campgrounds are on board with the Obama’s plan. They are offering kid-friendly activities to get your little ones moving. From nature walks to pumpkin painting, fishing to flower planting, campsites are setting up events to keep the whole crew happy and healthy.

Time Together: Many students spent their summers off in front of the TV or with a video game controller glued to their hands. It’s easy to get distracted in a world full of them. Summer vacations are meant for time together as a family.

Taking a step back from technology can do the mind good. Being in the simplicity of nature can help you connect as a family. You’ll have more time to talk, listen, and just enjoy each others’ company…without the TV blasting or the video games going.
