Dan Aykroyd At Vodka Event Today

Fans of the "Ghostbusters" star are expected to start lining up in early afternoon.

State store officials are anticipating that up to 1,000 people will turn out today for "Ghostbusters" star Dan Aykroyd, when he comes to the in the Crest Plaza Shopping Center to sign bottles of his Crystal Head vodka.

"People are really looking forward to it," said Missy Wydra, of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. "It's created quite a buzz in the area."

The store's employees have fielded a lot of calls on the signing. The store will have extra staff on hand to help with the anticipated crowd. Parking is not expected to be a problem, since the shopping center has ample parking and Aykroyd is not expected to be travelling with a large entourage.

South Whitehall police have been notified but their presence was not requested.

Well-known for his movie roles as a ghostbuster and a Blues Brother, Aykroyd will be on site from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Participants will first have to purchase a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka, which produces top-shelf vodka made from glacial water in Newfoundland, Canada, to have him sign it.

The vodka costs $49.99 for a 750 ml bottle, which comes in a distinctive clear glass bottle shaped like a skull, at Pennsylvania state liquor stores. Aykroyd is a co-founder of the company.

Earlier signings in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were well received, with some fans turning up dressed as a ghostbuster or Blues Brother and others with kids in tow. Aykroyd allowed photos and signed memorabilia that customers had brought along.

"He's very accommodating and very personable with consumers," Wydra said.

With the earlier signings having gone well, both the vendor and state store officials thought it would be good to do a signing in another part of the state. "We are striving to try to enhance our customers' experience in the store," said Gail Chiavetta, of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

The Wine & Spirits store in South Whitehall for its location and size, Wydra said. The store has hosted other signings with former Eagles coach Dick Vermeil and winemaker Veronique Drouhin.
