5. Today in History: On this day in 1970, Apollo 13, the third lunar landing mission,  successfully took off from Cape Canaveral, carrying astronauts James A. Lovell, John L. Swigert, and Fred W. Haise. By that evening, however, the mission became one of trying to get the men home safely.
