5. Today in History: On this day in 1863, newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst was born in San Francisco. He was the only son and principle heir to western mining magnate George Hearst. William was not interested in the family business, however, and made his way to New York City where he and Joseph Pulitzer became the first, and some say the most famous, "yellow journalists" ever. They have even been accused of starting the Spanish-American War to sell newspapers.
