Cordner Edges Out Conrad in Macungie Mayor Race

Gary Cordner was the top vote-getter in Tuesday's race for Macungie mayor, according to unofficial results.

Interim Macungie Mayor Gary Cordner will be holding onto the post a bit longer, according to unofficial vote tallies from Tuesday’s general election reported by WFMZ.com.

Cordner, a Democrat, beat Republican challenger Ronald Conrad by a 29-vote margin, WFMZ reports, with Cordner finishing the night with 320 votes to Conrad's 291.

Cordner was selected to serve as interim mayor by Macungie Borough Council in July after former Macungie Mayor Rick Hoffman resigned.

Cordner, 61, is a professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Kutztown University. He served as a police officer in Ocean City, Md., and as the chief of the St. Michaels, Md., Police Department in the 1970s and 1980s. He also was a commissioner on the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the only national body that accredits police departments.

The term of office for Macungie mayor is four years.
