Dream Big This Summer at the Library

A busy week at the library with storytimes and computer classes! And if you didn't read Part 1 in our "To Be a Boy, To Be a Reader" series, check it out before Part 2 later this week!

I know we haven’t had much in the way of snow this winter, and depending on who you ask, that might be a good thing or a bad thing.

But as I mentioned at the end of last week’s “This Week” post, I was spending a good portion of my “off week” from storytimes planning the Summer Reading Club, and the lack of snow has made me feel less conflicted about planning summer than usual!  I made some real progress, figuring out the “take” on the theme I was going with for each of our age groups, the names each program would go by, and ordering the prizes for the Reading Incentive Program.

For those of you curious, the theme is “Dream Big @ Your Library”… in general a dreaming/night theme, which allows us to go in many directions with programming!

Stay tuned for that in the coming months. As promised, . (There really are brain development differences… and they affect reading styles and choices!) Part 2 with more practical tips will be coming up later this week. But for now, on to this week. It’s a busy one!

This week at the library:

Monday: Book It Around the World! Gr.2-3; 6:30pm. This is our regular school year program for elementary school age kids in grades K-1st. In our “Around the World” theme, we’ll travel by continent across the globe and his month, we’re in Antarctica! We’ll hear stories about frozen tundra and then do an activity.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested.

Computer Basics Level 1 Class, 11-1pm. This is for the person who has no  experience whatsoever with a computer. Your idea of a mouse is the rodent variety! The classes require a $5 registration fee due at the time of signup. And signup is required before the class.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes.

Computer Basics Level 2 Class, 11-1pm.. The classes require a $5 registration fee due at the time of signup. And signup is required before the class

AARP Tax Aide; 1-5pm. This free service for those 60 and older of low or moderate income level is on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, the library is simply providing the meeting space, so you must come in and sign up for an appointment with the Tax Aide reps in order to meet with them, not the library. (They’re the ones keeping their own appointments, so we don’t even know what they might have available.) If they can’t take you right away, they will schedule a time for you to come in over the next three months of Thursdays that they will be doing this. For more information, call AARP at 1-888-227-7669.

Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30am, a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/11; advanced registration required.
Ones Storytime, 10:30am; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months  as of 9/12/11; advanced registration  equired.

Intro to the Web Class, 11-1pm. The classes require a $5 registration fee due at the time of signup. And signup is required before the class

And because it’s officially tax season, just want to remind everyone that we have tax forms available in the front of the library, as well as a link on our website to the relevant federal and state government websites where you could print them off from home! As always, let us know if you have any questions and we hope to see you in sometime this week!

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
