Free 'Hunger Games' Copies, Summer Reading Signups at Lower Mac Library

Free copies to the first 12 teens to sign up for "The Hunger Games" book discussion. Summer Reading signups go out on Saturday at 9am!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day holiday, reflecting on what it stands for and maybe enjoying some extra time with family or friends! There’s not a lot of programming going on this week, but what is happening at the end of the week is pretty significant, and a lot of other information to tell you about including some summer reading information for the teens and a library closing.

To check out the information for teens (or parents of teens), go to our post on the teen blog and find out about some of the blog “series” we’re going to do that  we’re pretty excited about!

The Future Me is one we see as an on-going resource for our teens looking to explore different possible career fields, so pass it on to your teens who are hitting the end of their high school years.

Or, if you would like to be the subject of one of our videos, please let us know!

Also up for the teens this summer is a Hunger Games book discussion, and thanks to the generous donation of our Friends group, we’ll be giving out FREE copies of the book to the first 12 students signed up! If your teen has already read it, they can get an extra copy to give to a sibling or friend or leave it for additional students to join in! Check out signup information at the bottom for more details.

This week at the library:

Tuesday: Library Re-opens

Wednesday: May Drop-by Storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. No signup is required and these storytimes are for children who were in the 2s, 3s, 4s or Kindergarten programs during the school year.

Genealogy Basics adult computer class; 5-7pm. Advanced registration and a $5 fee required.

Thursday: LML Board Meeting; 5pm in the LMT “Ballroom”. This meeting is open to the public.

Friday:  Library is closed for a regional staff development day. If you took out movies last Friday, enjoy the extra day rental on us!

Saturday: Summer Reading Signups go out at 9am!!! Yes, there is usually a crowd of parents waiting for us to open, if you’ve heard the rumors. Both “arms” of the Summer Reading Club, the Reading Incentive Programs and the in-library program/events, will be available that day. To clarify, this is the day the signups go out, and most of our program/events require registration (unless designated as a “drop-by”). Some years, some of the more popular programs or age groups have filled by the end of the morning, some years, a few spots have remained the following Monday morning. The youngest elementary age programs typically fill up the fastest. So it’s first come, first serve. And that includes the book discussion for kids going into grades 4-6 on The Lost Hero as well as the aforementioned Hunger Games book discussion for grades 6-12. We have a limited number of spots/books.

The grade designations for programs are based on the grade your child is entering in Fall 2012. You will be able to begin recording reading for the Reading Incentive Program beginning Saturday, but prizes will not be available until the program actually starts on June 18. Please check the Parents tab of the Children’s Homepage or our online program calendar for more information. Oh, and bringing your calendar/knowing dates your child is signed up for any camps/VBS or going on vacation is VERY helpful!

Please contact us if you have any questions on anything going on and we’d love to see you in sometime this week!

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
