Lower Mac Library Recognizes Volunteers

Programs, eBooks, computer classes, raffles, volunteer recognition... there's always something going on at the library!

I feel like every week recently I’m saying what a big week the week before was and teasing something big… and this week is no exception! Last week was busy, this week is full, and did you catch our big announcement last week?! Plus, we’ll hopefully be making another not-as-big, but awesome nonetheless announcement later this week. Seriously, whoever thought libraries were boring, dying places hasn’t been to LML recently! And you all being involved in it, using the materials, participating with us in programs, volunteering, celebrating National Library Week,  and making donations is the reason we can do all this!

On that note, a SUPER big Thank You to our amazing volunteers who will be recognized this Saturday. Our volunteers put in 2200 hours of work in 2011, so if you see a volunteer, thank them for their hard work!

I can’t believe it, but this week marks the last week of the regular school year cycle storytimes until the Fall! Don't worry, it's not the end of storytimes, though! Starting next week, we’ll be switching to drop-bys through the entire month of May on Wednesdays at 10:30am and 12:30pm. No signup is required and these storytimes are for children who were in the 2s, 3s, 4s or Kindergarten programs during the school year.

This week at the library:

Maybe get some first looks at the prizes up for grabs in the reading incentive program? Join us for the SRC Sneak Peek program and find out, plus, we’ll read a story fitting the theme and do an activity.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytime, 10:30am. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Job Searching and Resume Basics Adult Computer Class, 11am-1pm. Registration and $5 class fee due in advance.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes.

Genealogy Basics Adult Computer Class, 11am-1pm. Registration and $5 class fee due in advance.

LML Board Meeting: Monthly meeting of the members of the Board of Lower Macungie Library, 5pm, Township “Ballroom”. Open to the public.

Creating Backyard Water Gardens Presentation; 6:30pm. April Johnson of Rodale will join us to demonstrate how to create your own oasis. She will talk about plants, fish and frogs, water quality, and how to keep your pond healthy throughout all seasons, and there will be time for questions.

Friday:  Intro to Excel 2007 Adult Computer Class, 9-11am. Registration and $5
class fee due in advance.

Saturday: Volunteer Recognition Program; 9:30-11:30am.

Lorax Earth Day Program; Gr. K-5; 10:30am. Advanced registration is required. We’ll use the beloved Lorax to kick off our Earth Day celebration program! There are still a few spots available, so contact us if you’re interested.

There are things going on every day this week, so we’ll be hoping once again! Plus, be on the lookout for those new books to start showing up in the Carbon Lehigh Downloadable Library, as well as our announcement later in the week. We’ll have something here, as well as on our Facebook page.

On a final note, some National Library Week wrap-up… thanks to all who came out to support the library at the end of National Library Week for the book sale! We raised a few thousand dollars, a great start to the Book Sales down at The Book Nook! And this week is the final week to purchase tickets for our extended National Library “Week” raffle! $2 a ticket or 3/$5 can get you a chance at winning a 42” HDTV, a Nook Simple Touch eReader, 2 Regular Admission Day Passes to Dorney Park, $50 worth of K-Cups from Green Mountain Coffee or a $50 gift card for ArtsQuest classes at the Banana Factory!
