Lower Macungie Library is a Busy Place This Week!

Congrats to Oscar-winning Children's author/illustrators!! Plus, what's going on this week at the library!

Whether you love the Academy Awards or could care less, we were excited to see that two of Children’s Literature’s own were recognized last night! Brian Selznick, author/illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret was on hand to see the film inspired by his book, Hugo, win 5 Oscars. William Joyce, author and illustrator of many children’s books, won an Academy award for his amazing short animated film, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which we posted here a few weeks ago. Highly worth watching! Congratulations to both! A great night for book fans!! Last week, I also posted a , so check that out if you haven’t! But now on to programs for the week!

This week at the library:

Tuesday: 4 year old storytime, 10:30am. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced
registration is required for storytimes.

AARP Tax Aide; 1-5pm. This free service for those 60 and older of low
or moderate income level is on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, the
library is simply providing the meeting space, so you must come in and sign up
for an appointment with the Tax Aide reps in order to meet with them, not the
library. (They’re the ones keeping their own appointments, so we don’t even
know what they might have available.) If they can’t take you right away, they
will schedule a time for you to come in over the next three months of Thursdays
that they will be doing this. For more information, call AARP at 1-888-227-7669.

Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30am, a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/11; advanced registration required.

Ones Storytime, 10:30am; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months  as of 9/12/11; advanced registration required.

So storytimes and tax help! It’s that time of year :) Hope you have a great week and stop in some time to check out both our programs and our collection! Have a great week!
