This Halloween Week at the Library
Kids get lots of chances to dress up this week at the library... and adults? You get to play with e-Readers! Check out what's going on this week at the library!
First off, a big thank you to all who participated and planned our Fright Night fundraiser on Saturday night!! The Friends group did an amazing job, I hear, and the funds are definitely appreciated. We'll let you know some totals when we get them! As I type this, I have my “dress up” box dumped out on one of the tables in my program room, trying to figure out how I’ll dress up for Halloween week in storytimes each day. Options are Lunch Lady, a pirate, fairy princess, Olive Oyl, Waldo and a rockstar… and one very special one I’m reserving for Saturday. If your kids are signed up for regular storytime during the week or even if they’re not, there’s an opportunity for them to dress up this week at the library, among a few other activities! Check them out…
This week at the library:
Monday: Book It Around the World! Gr.K-1; 6:30pm. We’ve started our regular school year programs for elementary school age kids this month, and the K-1st graders meet the first Monday night of every month, except this month and January, due to some conflicts with the first Monday night. In our “Around the World” theme, we’ll travel by continent across the globe and we’ll start in familiar territory this month with North America. We’ll hear stories from North American traditions, like tall tales, and then do an activity.

PA German classes at The Hills at Lockridge Rec Center, 7-9pm. This program is FULL, so this is a reminder for those of you who’ve already registered.
Bedtime Booktime: bedtime stories for ages 2-6 at 7:30pm. Kids can come dressed in their PJs… Miss Erin will be! We’ll hear some bedtime stories and try not to fall asleep!

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date based on the East Penn School District. At this time, I still have spots in the 4 year old storytimes. Contact us if you’re interested. This week, kids can wear their Halloween costume to storytime!
To e-Read or Not to e-Read, 6pm. Adult program. If you’ve considered getting a Nook, Kindle, iPad or other e-Reader for the purpose of reading digital books, come check out this hands-on demonstration!! Lehigh University business librarian Heather Simineau will bring a collection of devices and show you how to use them, explain the pros/cons of each and allow you to play around with them! A not-to-be missed program if you’re considering an e-reader or recently got one and could value from a hands-on presentation! Especially with the holiday season coming up AND the library’s soon-to-be unveiled OverDrive e-books collection next spring!
Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above. At this time, the morning group is filled and I have five spots in the afternoon. Contact us if you’re interested. This week, kids can wear their Halloween costume to storytime!
Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes. At this time, the morning is full and there are a few spots in the afternoon session. Contact us if you’re interested. This week, kids can wear their Halloween costume to storytime!
Saturday: Halloween Drop-by storytime for kids 2-9 years at 10:30am. Miss Erin
will read some Halloween stories and then hand out a small treat to the kids! Kids can wear their Halloween costume to storytime!
Between PJs at Bedtime Booktime and Halloween costumes during storytimes, there’s plenty of chances to dress up this week! Let us know if you have any questions or would like more information and we hope to see you in sometime this week!
