This Week at the Library: Book Sale!

Lots coming up at the library the next couple of weeks, starting with this week's annual Fall Book Sale at the end of the week! Check out the details!

It’s hard to believe that next week starts the holiday season… unless you’ve been to a store that already has Christmas trees up! But is Thanksgiving seriously next week already? Well, before we hit next week, there’s much to do this week yet!

One of the big things this weekend is our annual Fall Book Sale! You’ll see us setting up already, so please excuse the tables set up around the front of the library, but it takes the Friends quite a while to sort and set out! And for those of you who are wondering about the tables being back in the library, yes, that means the Sale itself is back in the library instead of down at the township building. If you’re planning on coming to the Book Sale (of course there are more than only books available), the hours will be Friday and Saturday from 9am-4:30pm. The Bag Sale will be at the end of the day on Saturday. For those of you who are members of the Friends group (it’s still not too late to join!), you are invited to the Friends’ Preview Night on Thursday night from 5-8. Please note, on Saturday, the Community Center is also hosting a very large craft fair. People will have to park down in the lower lot, so keep that in mind if you plan on coming Saturday.

So what else do we have going on this week?

This week at the library:

Monday: Star Trek: Astronauts; 6:30pm. This is our regular school year program for kids in 2nd-3rd grade, happening the second Monday night of every month. This school year, we’re doing a space theme. Advanced registration is required.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested. This week, kids can come dressed in their Halloween costumes!

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above. This week, kids can come dressed in their Halloween costumes!

Intro to Computer Basics, Level 2; 11am-1pm. Topics include how to cut and paste, file management, webpage toolbar functions, control panel functions, and simple web searches. Advanced registration and a $5 fee is required.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes. This week, kids can come dressed in their Halloween costumes!

Intro to the Web, 11am-1pm. An introductory course on learning to navigate web pages, basic searches, downloading files, and printing. Advanced registration and a $5 is required.

Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30am, a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Ones Storytime, 10:30am; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months  as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Saturday: We’re So Thankful! K-5th grade; 10:30am. This Thanksgiving program for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade will give the kids a good time to reflect on what they’re thankful for… and mom and dad can shop the Book Sale without kids! Take advantage of the opportunity! Advanced registration required.

In case you missed it, read a little about how the library was used during Hurricane Sandy.

For anyone interested in the storytimes, this is a signup week, even though we change up the calendar a bit for the last month and a half of the calendar year. You can sign up this week for the next cycle, but that cycle will not begin until the week of January 7th. Starting next week until the next cycle starts, we will have Winter drop-by storytimes for all kids eligible for the normal storytimes (so parents in the Ones storytime, please continue to go to your normal program even if your child has since turned 2). These drop-bys will be every Wednesday at 10:30am and 12:30pm, with the exception of December 26th.

Looking ahead, our Santa Visit will be on Saturday, December 8th, so mark your calendars for that. And starting NEXT Saturday, November 24th through Saturday, December 15th, if you stop in the library between 9-11am, the Library Board will be serving patrons coffee as a way to say thank you for your continued support. As always, please contact the library for details on any programs.
