This Week at the Library: Daddy and Me

Check out the programs available this week at the library!

Like many of you, I spent part of the weekend watching ice hockey and football. I’m not obsessed with either (unless you’re talking about the Packers!), but I do enjoy sports and competition. I know enough to be dangerous… and to be able to talk intelligently with boys and dads in the library (and any other sports-interested women, of course!) So that’s just another reason why dads don’t need to be scared at the prospect of coming to a “daddy and me storytime” at the library… there’s currently a football field bulletin board in the children’s area, so they should feel a little more at home than they expect ;)

All joking aside, there is a Daddy and Me storytime on Saturday, and I have a few more spots available. It’s a great way to get into the library (or maybe for dad to be introduced to it!) and only be surrounded by other dads and kids. And not to get on my “boys and books” soapbox, but a huge step in keeping your sons reading… seeing a male reader role model!

So besides the Daddy and Me, there’s other stuff going on at the library this week…

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District.

Intro to Microsoft Word 2007, 11am-1pm. Learn the basic skills to understand and use Word, which is the word processing program that makes documents easier to create, share, and read. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Intro to Microsoft Excel, 11am-1pm.Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Topics covered include: uses of Excel, formatting of spreadsheets, & simple formulas. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes.

Genealogy Basics, 11am-1pm. Learn the basics of researching your family history using library databases and other online resources. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30am, a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Ones Storytime, 10:30am; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Saturday: Daddy and Me Storytime, 10:30am, ages 2-6 years old. Special storytime just for dads and kids! Don’t worry, the craft is easy ;) Advanced signup required.
