This Week at the Library: Dr. Seuss and Oscar Winners

This week at the library... 1040 instruction booklets are arriving, Cat in the Hat storytime and we have many of the Oscar winning films in our collection or on order!

It’s Monday morning and maybe some of you are little bleary-eyed from staying up to watch the Oscars. For those of you interested in seeing the winners or films that got a lot of buzz, we do have Argo, Brave, Skyfall and Beasts of the Southern Wild. The as yet unreleased films, like Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Searching for Sugar Man, Silver Linings Playbook and Anna Karenina, are all on order to receive as soon as they come out!

In other big news for the week… we finally received notice from the federal government that the 1040 instruction booklets are supposed to arrive Tuesday. We’ll post on our website and Facebook pages as soon as they get in, so stay tuned!

And this weekend is one of our annual highlights in the youth services department… the Cat in the Hat/Dr. Seuss storytime! It’s a drop-by (no-signup) event for all ages, but keep in mind for our youngest kids that I’ll be reading a couple of Dr. Seuss books, which can be a bit longer for such a big crowd AND I’ll be dressed up as Cat in the Hat, so if you have one of those classic “my child is terrified of Santa” pictures from a couple of months ago, just be warned I’ll be in costume. We’ll do a little craft after, too.

Find out what's happening in Lower Macungiewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Monday: Intro to Excel, 11am-1pm. Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Topics covered include: uses of Excel, formatting of spreadsheets, & simple formulas. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District. Contact us if you’re interested in signing up.

Job Searching and Resume Basics, 11am-1pm. A jam-packed week this week! Every day there's something going on! As a regular reminder about TaxAide: we are in no way connected to their scheduling… we simply provide them space to meet. So if you’re calling to schedule an appointment, we won’t be able to help you. You have to come in and schedule with the accountants on Thursdays.

If you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website!
