This Week at the Library: Summer is Winding Down

We're winding down July... and heading into the last two weeks of summer reading programming! Check out what's going on this week!

Hopefully everyone had a great weekend… it was at least a little less hot than it’s been for most of the summer!  It was pretty eerily quiet in the library over the weekend, as strange as that sounds when you’re talking about a library. The temperature was so low the air conditioner was off most of the time and you couldn’t hear its hum!But that’s all going to change again this week… back to the heat! Which makes the air-conditioned library all the nicer! Before we get into  that’s going on for the SIXTH week of Summer Reading, I just wanted to say it was great to be a part of Ben’s Block Party at Memorial Park on Saturday! I saw many of our library family out there and met some new people. A great event and a worthy cause!

As we start getting closer to the end of the summer reading program and the finale event, don’t forget to keep on top of tracking books! The last week will be here before you know it and you may forget some titles! On that note, come in any time the week of August 6 and fill out the final red colored “marker” for your child to have a chance at being a top reader for his or her age group. We have some great prizes to hand out to top readers, like a free kids meal to Texas Roadhouse, a Crayola set or a book!

Speaking of August 6, that’s the day of the FINALE! If you haven’t signed up yet, you’ll want to join us that afternoon down at the pool. You can make a day of it at the pool, but we’ll be there with DJ Jimbo from 3-6pm and Rita’s probably around 4:00! If your child was one of the first 75 kids signed up for the finale who requested day passes to the pool, I’ll start contacting you this week to pick up the passes at the front desk. But now onto this week!

Anyone who completes the survey can enter in a raffle for a great prize!

We’re nearing the home stretch! After this week, just one more week of programs and then the full week of the Finale Pool Party to get your last books logged. Just as a reminder, you can sign up for any of the 3 Reading Incentive Programs at any time through August 11. If you have any questions, check the Parents tab of the Children’s Homepage or our online program calendar for more information and stay tuned through our Facebook page for up-to-the- moment announcements! We hope to see you in sometime soon at the library!
