This Week at the Library: It's National Library Week!

National Library Week and Tax Day at the library this week!

Happy Tax Day!! Okay, maybe it’s not something we celebrate, but if you’re still trying to get your taxes done and find yourself needing forms, we have them and we’re open until 9 p.m.!

In happier news than Tax Day, it’s also the start of National Library Week! We’ve got some special things going on this week. There are those raffle tickets we’re selling all month… support the library and purchase some (1/$2 or 3/$5) for your shot at winning a Kindle Fire, gift cards to Wegman’s, Texas Roadhouse or Walmart, or the grand prize of a 42” Vizio HDTV! We also have a mountain of Peeps at the Circulation Desk generously donated by Just Born, while supplies last. The theme this year is "Communities Matter" and we are honored to support the Lower Macungie community!

As for in-library programs…

This week at the library:

Monday: Star Trek: Aliens; 6:30pm. This is our regular school year program for kids in 4-6th grade, happening the third Monday night of every month. This school year, we’re doing a space theme. Advanced registration is required.

Tuesdays: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9 1/2 based on the East Penn School District

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Heritage Quest, 11a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn search techniques to access unique American genealogical databases dating back to the 1700s which can be accessed from home computers. It will include US Census records, Revolutionary War records, book and periodical indexes of local and family histories from around the world, post-Civil War southern and African American family records, and US House and Senate documents.. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30 a.m., a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Ones Storytime, 10:30 a.m.; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.

Also, in a wrap up from last week, we were honored to be one of the select number of libraries across the state to host Stacey Aldrich, the State Librarian of Pennsylvania, for a town hall meeting open to all librarians. Exciting things are happening in Pennsylvania libraries!

As always, if you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website! Happy National Library Week and good luck on Tax Day!
