This Week at the Library: Rockets, Storytimes, Movies and Taxes

This week at the library, drop-bys, free movie screening and TaxAide starts!

Well, Super Bowl’s over, so I guess it’s time for me to take down my Green Bay Packers bulletin board in the children’s area… a fact that will sadden many of the Eagles fans around here, I know ;)  What a game though, with the lights going out and the momentum change and the close ending! Or maybe you’re not into the game, but like watching the commercials or even hosting a party. Super Bowl weekend is fun, but now the football season is over! But for those of you not interested in football, I promise to get onto the programs for the week!

There’s other stuff going on at the library this week…

This week at the library:

Monday: Star Trek: Rockets; 6:30pm. This is our regular school year program for kids in Kindergarten and 1st grade, happening the first Monday night of every month. This school year, we’re doing a space theme. Advanced registration is required.

Bedtime Booktime; 7:30pm, ages 2-7 years. Our monthly bedtime storytime. Kids can come out and hear a few bedtime stories. Come dressed in your PJs… Miss Erin will be! No signup required.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District.

Movie Night: Celebrate romance in the month of valentines by watching a free showing of the film, To Have and Have Not (1944). This is the film where Bogie and Bacall met and the rest—as they say is history.  Bring your sweetheart or just sit back and enjoy this classic film. Free popcorn and soft drinks courtesy of the Library! Please contact the library for more information or to register.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Intro to Computer Basics: Level 1, 11am-1pm.Learn the basics of using a computer, both its external and internal parts, using a mouse, and basic windows operation. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes.

AARP Tax-Aide, 1pm-5pm. First-come, first serve. Free tax help! For taxpayers with low and moderate-income, with special attention to those age 60 and older.  For more information, call AARP at 1-888-227-7669.

Saturday: Valentine’s Day Drop-by Storytime, 10:30am, ages 2-9 years old. Kids ages 2-9 are welcome to come hear a Valentine's Day story before getting to make a Valentine (or two) out of our craft supplies. No advanced registration required.

Please note that this is the last week of the current 5 week cycle for preschool storytimes. Signups will go out on the day of each age group's program for the next cycle, but next week will be an "off" week with no storytimes. Please come in with your child to get books, but there will be no storytime next week.

So lots of drop-by opportunities, adult programs, and yes, TaxAide starting. On the tax front, we are in no way connected to their scheduling… we simply provide them space to meet. So if you’re calling to schedule an appointment, we can’t help you. You have to show up and schedule with the accountants on Thursday. We can’t schedule for you, sorry! Check out AARP's website for more details. Also, we’ve begun to put tax forms out in the front of the library, as we do every year. State forms are available and we ordered the federal forms last summer, but unfortunately, due to the delayed legislation (fiscal cliff-related), federal forms have been delayed from the government. Please have patience until they arrive and stay tuned here or on our Facebook page, and we’ll notify you when they come in! If you need them right away, check out the IRS' website to download and print them from home.

As always, if you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website!
